The Mountain Home Bombers are looking to place a foot in the proverbial playoff door with a second straight home conference victory.

The Bombers (1-6, 1-3) host Little Rock Hall (2-5, 0-4) at 7 p.m. Friday at Bomber Stadium.

Mountain Home is looking for its first playoff berth since 2013, but its first through winning games since 2011. In the 2012 and 2013 seasons, every team in Class 6A made the playoffs regardless of record.

“The weather is supposed to be nice and cool like a football game is supposed to be,” Joyce said. “It’s been a few years since we earned a playoff spot with some victories. It will feel good to know we earned a playoff berth. I know our guys are pumped up, and we always seem to play with more energy at home. I’m expecting great things from the guys Friday night.”

The top six teams from the 6A-East advance to the playoffs, and a victory would put the Bombers ahead of both Hall and Jacksonville in the standings.

To gain their second league victory — Mountain Home defeated Jacksonville 34-27 two weeks ago — the Bombers will have to keep the Warriors from hitting big plays.

“They’ve really hit a big play against everybody except West Memphis,” Joyce said. “Every game but that one, they’ve hit a big pass or a long run of over 50 yards. They have the capability to drop a bomb on you. They can have a 75-yard touchdown on a 5-yard hitch route just because you miss a tackle. We have to put pressure on the quarterback and get him off his mark a little bit.”

Hall fell 32-28 to Jacksonville last week.

“They probably should have won the Jacksonville game,” Joyce said. “They were up, and Jacksonville scored in the last minute or so.”
